House Renovations in Modesto

House renovations in Modesto using over $25 million in federal stimulus dollars have prompted an investigation by the federal government. The audit is in response to assertions of faulty workmanship and above average expenses.
They are also investigating charges that homes were sold to city employees at deep discounts. Examples of extravagant expenses using federal money include the cost of a $2500 bathtub that was added to a painting bill, which itself was three times higher than the market rate for the job. In another case, a home renovated with federal money was sold to a city employee at a discount of almost $40,000, and the loan it was financed with was at a discounted interest rate and required zero down payment. In another case, the homeowner of a renovated home where a total of $43,000 of federal money was spent alleges that the job was shoddy.
