House Renovations in the Attic

Unfortunately not all house renovations are done to code, and many which are done by homeowners themselves or their friends are far from it. This is a particular problem with attic renovations, and one common mistake homeowners make is to remove the collar ties supporting the roof, which can cause the roof to bow in and even collapse at some point in the future.
Another common mistake with attic renovations is that the attics are converted into extra bedrooms. The attic is usually not a safe place for a bedroom, except the ones which have a real stairway and full ceiling height. The attic spaces with little more than a crawl space for a stairway and low ceilings are unsafe because there is limited air space and less time for evacuation in the case of a fire.
