Each year, as Spring gets closer, I get inspired about what I can do to have a sense of renewal in our house. Sometimes it's painting, sometimes it's getting new deck furniture…this year I'm thinking of renewing our floors. I've seen some appealing options at Empire Today, for instance. Some of their Empire carpet is even eco-friendly, which would suit me very well! I'm also going to get new window shades, maybe even with a remote control! I'm excited about these plans. Having something new to look forward to for the house also helps motivate me to do my spring cleaning! It's like I'm getting the house ready for the new things to arrive, so it makes me happy to accomplish the task. I have a sequence I usually follow. The fist thing is changing out the clothes from fall and winter to spring and summer. Then I start to do the cleaning, such as light fixtures, behind appliances, cleaning out kitchen and utility drawers, etc. Thanks to a steam cleaner we have, I also clean our upholstery and curtains. For the deck, I hire a professional to do the power washing. Without expertise, it's possible to do damage…though it does look like fun!
